i have a question. i am currently in south america and i have a tamaron 18-200 which i just cant get a crisp photo from it. i have found a camera store that has a canon 75-300 usm 4.5 (i think) (i think non IS) for $320. I will be in south america for another 5 weeks. does anyone own this lens? is it a better lens than the tamaron? currently i use almost exclusively my canon 50mm. any feedback will be welcomed

thanks

Dave

I have the 75-300 IS, but I am not very fond of it; it is often quite soft. I recently upgraded to the 70-300 IS which is a much better lens. I don't know the non-IS 75-300, but $320 seems extremely expensive for that lens.

The 75-300 series are pretty lousy lenses. Super soft under f/8 and soft over 200mm. You are better off saving for the 70-300IS which has fantastic optics, or the 70-200 f/4 which has fantastic optics and is built like a tank.
