    canon EFS 18-55mm f:5.6 - full zoom

    average bokeh - from an average lense ;}

    over all i think the lense works well for what it cost...

    the details in the drops is pretty astounding IMO.

    thanks for looking ;}

    Excellent shot except for the average boke (ぼけ)

    It is kind of fun how you can say "EFS 18-55" and there is only one camera in the world it could be on.

    bokeh is the type of effect on the out of focus areas of a shot. some cameras/lenses produce a smoother transistion in the blurred tones - good bokeh.

    others dont do so hot - bad bokeh - more choppy pixelated effect.
    depends ont he snesor , and the quality of the optics

    someone else could explain it better, but look at the out of focus areas at about 300%, and you'll see what i mean i think

    what is boken?
    It is really bo ke (2 syllables) but Americans would say it as one syllable and so folks transliterate it as bokeh. If you can see Japanese fonts, it is ぼけ and bokeh would be ぼけえ None of which really matters except that mispronounced and incorrectly transcribed Japanese are pet peaves of mine. What it means is the characteristic of the out of focus areas. The picture in this thread has strong boke that shows as circular patterns in the out of focus areas. Not terrible but not particularly pleasing

    PS: Don't get me started on the xenophobia implied by Japanese purposely mispronouncing words like Nikon because they don't think Americans or Europeans can say it correctly. Or the Americans who are determined to prove them right by butchering words like karaoke or harakiri

    well you dont really have to worry about pronunciation here - seeing as this is a text forum, and not a live feed audio chat room.

    if you could see the printed version - i dont think the bokeh is too bad.
    at 16x24 there really isnt any of those large circular patterns - the colors blend pretty nicely.
