Battery Advice

So I'm going to buy a new P&S digital camera (Canon Powershot SD750) and I am looking at the accessories for it. I would like a new battery and was wondering if I should get the Canon brand, which is $47, and the Impact brand, which is only $18.

The only differences I see is that the Impact is 780mAh, and the Canon is 760mAh. Is this Impact brand a bad choice? Will it last as long as the Canon brand would?

Here are links to the batteries in question:

Impact Brand
Canon Brand

Thank you for any advice.

Hi Steven. I'm not knowledgable about these batteries, but I bought some back-up batteries for my 20D from Sterlingtek. They have great prices and free shipping, plus you can save a little extra for multiple purchases which I did at the time. So far I have had no problem with the batteries and have not detected any difference in performance. I will say that I also purchased a CF card from them and that was a different story....much slower than the Sandisks I had been using. Their price on your battery is $12.49 for one or $24.98 for two. Just another option! :D

Your question is ambiguous. According to its rating it should last longer than the Canon in the sense of number of shots before it need recharging. The other sense is, how long until you have to throw the thing out and get another battery. I don't know the answer to this one, but many people on this forum save money by using third party batteries--myself included. And I haven't seen many flames about bad experiences with them. Do a Google search on "<brand> battery problem" and unless you see lots of reported issues, then go for it.

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and ordered one (Impact brand) along with the camera. I figure if it's crap, then it's not like I spent a ton of money on it anyway.

I have ordered a number of Canon OEM batteries from Sterlingtek

They have worked without flaws and I can't tell any difference between the Canon BP-511 and the Sterlingtek brand .

I'm among the many happy Sterlingtek owners. Mine's going in two years old and still working fine. A the price difference you cannot lose--IIRC 1800maH at $12 vs 1300maH at $50. eek7.gifdunno

Ive bought "Insten" brand batteries from ACCSTATION on Ebay. (2) NB-2LH batteries with 1100mah capacities for like.. 15 bucks shipped? holds more charge than a pair of my canon ones.

I believe you use NB-4L. The link above will fwd you to all those types of batteries. I have never had a problem with mine before and I've ordered 2 pairs from them for my XT. I say give it a shot!
