I live in Maryland, and believe I will have to pay sales tax on prints sold on smugmug to other Marylanders. How do others go about this and does smugmug track this somehow?

Thank you

Jason

Hi Jason - since we are the actual seller we collect sales taxes on sales from buyers in California (where we are based), and remit to the California tax authority. We do not collect any sales taxes for Maryland.

Thanks Andy, So just so I am sure. I do not need to collect or reports sales tax, because Smugmug is the seller. Correct?

I am in WV and what I have to do is report my income every 3 months. There is a line on the form I fill out to put non-taxable income. That is where I put the amount from Smugmug (if I have received a check during said period) and other services that sales tax is not applicable.

I would contact the Maryland tax office for further details relating the Maryland.

    Hope this helps.
