OK I know the season is over, but my local HS is hosting an invitational tournament for Div II players from around the country. Here are some shots from last night - C&C welcome.

Very nice series Johng! Did you use the 85/1.4 or something for these? Just curious.
LT Sony A700&VG; KM 7D&VG; KM 5D; Min 28-75/2.8; 50/1.7; Tammie 17-50/2.8; Tammie 90/2.8 Macro; Min 80-200/2.8; and Min 300/2.8, two flashes, and a couple of other accessories.
I used an 85mm 1.8 for most - one might have been a 50mm 1.8. This was a high school gym and I don't like using flash and try to avoid using ISO 3200 so I didn't use my 70-200 2.8. I was shooting at ISO 1600, f2.0 and 1/500 so if I went to the 70-200 I would have had to use flash or ISO 3200. I found that on the 20d (1.6x crop) the 85 was too tight for college players so that was a pain and the 50mm 1.8 is a bit too limiting in range and slow to focus.

Hey Thanks Johng, always appreciate your answers and tips. Good things to think about should I have the occasion of shooting Basketball. Thanks again.

I am not qualified to critique, but IMHO I would prefer to see the net in #7.
Thanks
Sure you're qualified - it's the great thing about sports photography - we all see a sports page or Sports Illustrated or whatever - so we're all used to seeing sports photos.
I agree with you about the rim - it's the problem with shooting with such a tight lens. I honestly can't remember what was wrong with later shots in the burst - i.e. why I didn't use a photo of him finishing. Either someone moved in my way (happens way too frequently - very often an official) or I lost good focus.
