I like both images. The first is close up and intimate. The second has nice composition and shallow DOF with the bird nice and crisp. A small nit might be that I would have composed the second image with the bird in the right upper third rather than the left so it is looking into the frame rather than out of the frame, but I still like the image a lot.

Your exposure seems fine to me. Avoiding blowing out the highlights is a little easier if you shoot RAW (NEF for Nikonians1drink.gif) rather than jpgs. Allows you a little more wiggle room where you want your highlights to be ( eg what the RGB numbers are after processing)

Small bird shooting can be an interesting and fun challenge thumb.gif

Outstanding Jeff. clap.gif These are the best pics I've seen from you so far. You handled a very difficult subject well.

I agree with PF's comments on the comp of the second run.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
