In particular what does everyone think of the purple areas in the bokeh? I'm not sure I like them, but I couldn't figure out a way to de-emphasize them without being too obvious. Any tips?

I agree with Gary, i too would darken the background, that will make your beautiful flower really pop!! Great shot!
