Hi all, I'm new to SM and am trying to decide if it's worth the $$$. I'm trying to sell my photos as stock and am wondering how many of you are earning a living (this IS your job) by selling here. Also, am I able to make $$$ with a basic account? I ask because in the past few days I have gotten 2000+ hits on my galleries with no sales.:dunno
Are my pics just not stockworthy? Feel free to leave a critique. TIA.

First let me ask what level of smug account you have as this can clarify how to answer some of your questions (or give advice)?
Also:
Think of smug as an online photography community. It's a place to show off your work, share it, and even sell it. There are many high sales pro's and many low sales pro's (I've hardly sold anything through my pro account but I hardly market anything). It really depends on you. Your smugmug account is a tool with which you can let the world see your images. The marketing, the sales, etc is still very much dependant on how much you market or sell your images. Although people can find your images online, and buy them, without ever meeting or hearing from you, thats not something to count on.
Plus it is a photography community so you will recieve alot of hits (last month I had close to 14000 hits) and alot of them will be from people looking at photographs just to look because they enjoy them. Alot of them could be from possible buyers to but as with any business it all depends on your marketing and sales.
"If you build it they will come"
But how can they come if they don't know it's there?
Does that help answer your ?'s any?

exactly.
first, welcome Hunter, from another newbie.
second, if you have a pro account, first thing you need to do is block access to your originals, and apply the anti 'right-click' tool. and consider some type of watermark.
no need for someone to buy, when they can download.
