Videos question

Hey everybody,
I've been trying out the various accounts, and came across a question with videos. Basically is there any way to incorporate it so that videos (hosted on GoogleVideo or YouTube, due to size limitations) are inside an album, as opposed to taking up a whole gallery by themselves?
Also, is the "solution" for these videos (making them their own gallery) only open to power/pro users, or do standard users benefit as well?
Thanks everyone, looking forward to getting stuff up here ,
Eil

They way I do it, is to upload a thumbnail-size still from the video (with an added "play" button) as the photo, and embed the video code in the caption field.
This also allows the videos to be keyworded, just like a normal photo.
See this gallery for some examples

CSS only the video will show and not the special thumb above the video.
#mainImageLink {display:none;}

Clicked thumbs but only got the light box version of the pic...
I'm kinda new to CSS...where would I put this code?
Thanks everyone!
and leaves the caption with the video.
It goes in the CSS. If you have regular photos in the gallery also like
PBolchover's those would be removed also.

There are only a couple of videos in the gallery. Try using smugmug style to view it...
Can I get a copy of that play button... or did you get it off the web someplace?
You just put the video code in the pic description/caption?
How much CSS is required?
Yes, I just put the video code in the caption field. No CSS is required.
The play button is taken from the controls on the video applet. I've attached it to this post.
The 1st displayed image in SM format is the 1st pic in the gallery.... any way around that? Maybe I can add a back ground image in that space...
You could change the gallery URL that you link to. For example http://pbolchover.smugmug.com/gallery/2422234#127083079 gives my gallery with a different photo selected (if in smugmug style)
I presume you know this, but you can also put the images in the gallery in any order you want so you could make any image in the gallery be in the first spot. Or just link to the gallery page an include a refernce to the image in that gallery page that you want displayed as PBolchover suggested.

Always include a link to your site when posting a question
here's the gallery

and a sample of the code I put in the captions
Thanks

Try this:
.gallery_2793033 #caption_bottom {display: block !important;}
If you want to play around with your video gallery, try this:
.gallery_2793033 #mainImage {display: none;}
.gallery_2793033 #caption_bottom {
display: block !important;
text-align: center;
border:ridge 4px #D5B790;
background: #A5A5A5;
width: 430px;}
After your youtube code you can put the caption for the video also. The above code should look close to this:
brandoVideoGrab.jpg
THANKS...bow
I've been working on this site on and off for so long I forgot I did that...
Check IE6 (like we haven't heard that before) The video isn't showing up.
Place div tags around your youtube code and see if that helps. Then paste the code between <html> </html> in the caption.
p.s. I had to put an icepack on my scrolling finger after working on your site. Scrolling 24 pages of css took it's toll...:D
About the 24 pages... I know. I really should make my own theme since most of the Earth them is no longer visible.... But then I think I'd have to play with the numbers all over again since I would not be overriding the Earth code...
Thanks again... I like this set up much better...
I'm going to play with the background under the slide show next... I'd like the dance company logo "behind" the video block...
I'd actually like it to be there until a use clicks on a video to view, and then have it disappear or be the background... not sure I can do that w/o adding a picture to the gallery that is a "non-video" pic...
Any idea if I can keep the U-Tube video from loading and keep my background image showing until a user clicks a video to watch?
I figured out a work around or sorts... I added the background pic as an image in the gallery. Put it as the last image, adjusted the link to start w/ that picture... and then hid the picture... Seems to work...
I can not go back to the starting background w/o backing out of the gallery, but oh well...
I'm not familiar with the 'private accounts', but the videos need to be accessible without a password and such, if you want to use them on your SmugMug pages.
I hope this helps.

Is anyone else concerned about millions of complete strangers having access to your videos? If they are posted on YouTube in a non-private account then some pretty sick people can watch videos of your kids. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but this would bother me too much to use youtube to post my videos on SmugMug.
Its been a while since I posted a video to my site via you tube & now I need to post 3 videos asap & forgot how I did it.
I have a gallery called VIDEO , where they are already posted, I thought I could just send a new image/jpeg file to & then imbed the html, but I could not find the gallery listed in my choices, there is nothing good about getting old.
What am I missing here?
Here are the codes if that helps:

the gallery description between html tags. Uploaded the same photo to
show as the thumb on the category page called VIDEOS.
Here's what you have in the gallery description for one your galleries so you'll
see how to enter the code for the new videos. Replace the red parts for the new video galleries. May I suggest cleaning up the pages? Change each of the video galleries
to journal style under customize gallery and turn printing and sharing off.
Then with the CSS below hide the slideshow button, page navs and the one
photo. You'll see the photo logged in only.
.category_VIDEOS .play_slideshow,
.category_VIDEOS .journal_entry,
.category_VIDEOS .pageNav
{display: none;}
.loggedIn .category_VIDEOS .journal_entry
(display: block;}

Thanx Allen but should I replace the red parts for the new video gallerys only or for all or to clean up with the CSS code you suggest will take care of all & I continue to upload new vids by creating new gallerys.
I think you confused an already confused guy.
Thanx in advance for such a prompt reply, thats why I love & till this day can't believe the service we get for an un-matched anywhere product, I am proud to be a part of smugmug.
BTW
We just did our local show this past weekend & I took a shot after the show of a family walking out & she must have recognized my face from my home page & said to her young child as my flash went off, "Oh look honey, we're going to be on smugmug tonight.", and turned to me & said "Thanks"
