Hi you'll,

I'm going with the Great Blue Heron again. This guy put on a real good show. Usually this one is real slow and hardly moves but he saw this fish and I haven't seen anything move that fast since Andy saw a plate of ribs

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Gosh, that is a great bird shot. That is the size fish my bird was eating. His fish was the only reason I think he stayed around.

I was wondering if he choked to death after I left. Can they really swallow those things?

your shot is so clear. I am going to have to order an extender. I don't know whether to pay more for the extender at Amazon and use my prize money, or to pay less at BH, maybe even hunt around, and beat Amazon's price, but pay more out of my pocket. Amazon is going to kill me yet.

I always thought that the bird grabbed the fish. It wasn't until I saw your shot and Gingers that I saw they actually speared the fish.

    Facinating.

Thanks for the kind comment about the pics. If you notice theri necks are able to expand a good bit. They can swallow that whole fish very easily.

I am very happy with the 1.4 tc. I wish I could gp fpr the 1.7 or 2x tcs but I would lose AF.

Me too. Is that a sunfish or a bream of some kind? Love the frames with the fish speared on the Heron's lower bill. Very nice capture!!

Photographic proof of how they catch and eat the fish. I love the first one where the drop is falling off the fish!

So, have you been on one of those "fan" boats yet? Can you take photos from them?

    Hey Brian,

After watching these guys for six months I finally realized why they have those long, sharp bills. Doesn't take me too long too catch on. 11doh.gif Thanks.

I've always wondered how the birds can spear with the beak and then
    eat.

Even after the biologist at Don Edwards explained it to me, I couldn't
figure it out. It doesn't make sense. The pix show it nicely!

    Thanks for sharing!

No luck in training those birds to share their catch. You would have an easier time trying to get a rib from Andy. rolleyes1.gif

Its rough shooting in all the sunshine. Its much easier down here to blow out those highlights than it was in NYC.

Glad you enjoyed the shots. I had a fine time taking them. Those boats are great for sighseeing but lousy for pictures because they just move too fast. I took a river cruise on a slower boat but I haven't been on one of those swamp boats yet.
