Make sure you have a good understanding of what the theme elements mean. For example, translucent does not mean just transparent, and silhouette does not just mean dark.
I encourage all to use a dictionary and other resources to really maximize your grasp on what is being asked for by the theme.
Think of it this way, let's say a magazine contacted you to go shoot Shetland Ponies for a new spread they are planning, and you came back with photos of race horses. Do you think you would be walking away with a paycheck?
Know what it is you are being asked to shoot. If you are unclear about what you are being asked to shoot, ask questions, do research, figure it out. Without relevance your photos face an uphill battle no matter how good they are otherwise.
