Adobe Gamma/Pantone Huey Calibration Problem

Hi, I've been a Lurker for sometime, but thought I would join and see if you can help me with this problem.

In the past I calibrated my screen with Adobe Gamma, but using this large Gamma image

- I can just see the numbers 8 and 252.
My CRT monitor is a Dell Tinitron P992 made in 2002 and I run it at 1600x1200 on Windows 2K.

When I calibrated the monitor using Huey, I can just detect bands in the Gamma image in all strips, except the blue.

I thought that it should be spot on and can not understand why - is it because...
a) my monitor is past its sell by date
b) my eyes are causing the problem!
c) the Huey is defective
d) this is expected?

Also I decided, out of interest, to print the Gamma image and then the bands are very pronounced - although I can see 4 and 252 on the printout (my printer has been calibrated) - why are the bands so visible?

I feel somewhere things are not as I expected them to be and would appreciate some enlightenment.

Chris,

Adobe Gamma and Huey will not co-exist. You need to get rid of Adobe Gamma in order for Huey to work properly.

I didn't follow Ziggy's links, but in Windows make sure Adobe Gamma is not loading in your startup folder.

Thanks - yes I have disabled Adobe Gamma starting up - sorry forgot to mention that!
