My First Post: My roommate Matt

So I'm finally de-lurking. I recently filled a gap in my lens collection. I have the Canon 10-22 EF-S, the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS and I was using my Canon 50mm f/1.4 but I really missed that range from 22-49 and 51-70. I picked up the Canon 24-70 f/2.8L and I can't believe I went this long without it.

So anyway, I convinced my roommate to model so I could play with the new lens and now I REALLY love it. C&C welcome of course: here's Matt.

    Welcome!

I like 1 and 4 most. They seem less posed, more of a "moment".

    Keep on posting!

    wave.gif Glad you're delurking, thinker.

I like the use of negative space in the first image, very cool.

Nice shots. I really like number four. It conveys very well the feeling of laying down staring up at the sky.

I like #1 the best. It's so natural and relaxing looking, no worries!

I like the series, but #'s 3 and 4 don't work for me. IMO the large, OOF feet distract from your roommate's face.

Overall, I think they look good; the colors are really vivid!

i think 3 and 4 would have been better had he not been wearing shoes, and maybe get just a touch higher up to shoot. i like the concept, pretty creative.

    good shots overall.

I agree with what the folks say here: basically #1 is really cool, it has a great composition ("use of negative space", as our friend wxwax points out with his careful wording).

Not that the other shots are bad, #1 just is above them. I would also point out that I really like his expression on the last shot, it's really funny and I dig it.

    Thanks so much for sharing!
Oh, and congrats on your delurking and your fine new gear!
    Take care!

Thanks for all the comments and critiques.

An interesting trend I noticed in the comments was that most of my photographically-inclined friends as well as some of you folks really liked #1 . But I got a lot of neutral/negative responses on it from my friends who weren't into art/photography.

Guess you can't win 'em all.
