    Soft Silhouette

    Yep...

I like the soft foreground detail while still keeping the silhouette style.

    Way to go!

What a sweet photo! Looks great in b/w. I wonder if a little lower angle would offer more emphasis to her sillouette?

(Keep that one - wish I had a photo like that of me when I was little. I was the third child and there are hardly any photos of me!)

Laughing.gif point taken. I have three girls, too. It's funny how some weeks I'll have a zillion of #1 and then not any for weeks. I'm sure I'll screw them up somehow, but it's doubtful they will be able to say I never took pictures of them.

Here was my second choice--tighter crop and more of a profile. I think the other shot is stronger in emotional appeal and composition.

Then there was this one, which my husband said was creepy.

    tough choice,
they are both very nice. I see what you mean and both have strong points. hmmmmm, I think I'm leaning more toward #2. Since #1 has more in the composition, there is more that can be read into it, and quite possibly weaken your intent. Does that make sense?! headscratch.gif

Hmmm....#3 IS creepy but it does say "translucent". I wonder how it would look if your daughter did not have the pigtails and if you could situate her so that we can just see a teeny bit more of her facial features? headscratch.gif

I think both #1 and #2 are terrific!

You're going to have a hard time choosing which one to enter! rolleyes1.gif

Oh good lord I can't decide. I've had each one up for a time today. The third nails the theme, the first tells a story and the second does a better job of letting the viewer project the story.

The third evokes the strongest emotion, even if it's slightly creepy.

Good thing I have about a zillion hours to torture myself with this.

I like your original shot, if only you could play around with Levels and make the shadows more shadows and blow out the highlights a little bit? Also the BW conversion is a little bland. I normally convert to B&W using desaturate, and it gives me bland pics. I read fancy tuts on dgrin about B&W conversion for getting B&W which "pops".
Never done that though. I guess you can look through the "Finishing school" section.

    "Please Lord..."
    Indie Girl,

I think our judges would like the 2nd choice for the following reasons:
    1. the food and stuff on the right was distracting on #1
    2. in #2 she seems to be in prayer
    3. a simple motif seems to have more power over my emotions

    Keep up the good work!
    Joe

    New crop, played with levels

I'm going with my first instinct and entering this revised shot. Thanks to everyone who offered feedback. Really, really. Thanks!
