My videos only show the first frame, but play fine when downloaded.

Hi folks,
Having only just realised that SM can host video I've decided to make use of this feature. I've uploaded a test video, it's a 4Mb 320x240 MPEG-1. I created it by taking a movie from my Sony DSC-H5 digicam and running it through the application from http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/ to extract a clip from the original 110MB 640x480 MPEG1 file.
It plays fine in all players (Winamp, WMP, VLC, Qtime etc) on a number of pc's when I download the file to the local disk, but when embedded it doesn't play at all, it just sticks on the first frame. This suggests that SM has not 'done' anything to the file to cause the problem, unless the streamed version is stored and delivered seperatly to the downloadable version?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Secondly, am I right in thinking that the filesize is limited to 8Mb for videos, and that the only supported format is MPEG1?
