SmugMug seeming VERY slow lately...

I hate to sound like a whiner, but I have a pro account and have had a few complaints from clients that the site is "kind of slow"... I've noticed it myself during the hours of 8am until noon... and also around 3pm until 7pm sometimes... at midnight, when I'm doing most of my smugging, I don't see any speed problems...

Is there a bandwidth problem being addressed, or is smugmug just growing a lot right now? Are there any plans for smugmug to get a bandwidth increase sometime soon?

Please forgive me if I'm speaking about someting that has already been well versed... I didn't see anything on the first page.

And to answer the obvious question - how fast is my (or my clients) internet connections... all are broadband - mine is an 8mbs connection and I have done speedtests to ensure it was smugmug that was the "slow site"...

Any help is appreciated!

Hi, it's not really your connection (which I'm sure is fast) but rather, your connection via your ISP to us. Right now, the site is screaming for most folks - I know that doesn't help you - but this might - let's see a traceroute from you to us, okay?


To run a traceroute on a PC, click on "Start". Then click on "run" and type in "command" and hit enter. That should bring up a black screen. When you get that, type in "tracert hera.smugmug.com". There should be a little 'c:\' in the upper left corner of that black screen, click on that. Then select "edit" and then select "mark". You will see a little gray box appear inside the black box at the top. Click on that and drag it to the bottom so that all the text is highlighted. Then click on the 'c:\' at the top again and click on "edit" then "copy". Then open a response to this post, and paste it in there. That will help us see if and where any problems may be.

btw, lots of factors come into play - for example, user customization... try your test on a generic site, no customizing - for example, http://cmac.smugmug.com

I'll ask one of our techs to look at your traceroute...
