Today I had a chance to go to an open house at a local wildlife refuge.
I got to photograph many of their educational birds. These are birds that cannot survive in the wild.
I hope you enjoy them.

A Saw-Whet Owl
A Great Horned Owl
A Peregrine Falcon
A Barred Owl
A Short Eared Owl
An Immature American Bald Eagle

It might be my imagination, but they look almost a little sad, or at least a bit resigned to their fate. Regardless, it's nice to see them in such detail.

I had not thought of them as looking sad until now, but I guess I can see it. It helps to remember that these birds would all b dead if they were not in captivity. Staving to death is a rough way to go.
I almost deleted the last eagle shot due to the missing eye. He got hit by a train no less. It's hard to believe a bird that can fly would let itself get hit by a train.
I copied and flipped and pasted the eye from his left on to his right, and did a little blending etc. I think it looks ok.

I was waiting to see how long it would take before someone finally noticed.
Brian last activity here was in 2011 but I'm sure he would appreciate all the comments.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
