On this, the day to celebrate mothers, I thought it might be fun for us to present our favorite images of "mother," whatever that may be to you.

This is a self-portrait of my second daughter and I. We were having a bit of quiet time and she nestled up and had herself a little nap. Luckily my camera was nearby and I blindly shot this image. I love the crop (totally unintended) and am so glad to have this memory captured.

Just for fun, here are my kids:

    Zoe Star, age 4

    Eleanor, age 2

I was raised by my father and only know mothering from these three fairies. It's been an amazing journey, learning this role of mother from these particular children. They inspire, challenge and empower me each day to be a better person. Oh, and they're cute. That helps.

I already said this in another thread, but it bears repeating.

I, for one, am glad I have a mother. :D

I'll play, Indie. Here's a shot of my mother with a bun in the oven (yours truly)

Thanks for sharing, David. Love the shot--your mom's outfit has totally come back into style. This picture could be a modern one, in fact! My kids have outfits like your sister's.

    Hey Jesse

Thanks for giving us all a glimpse of your journey through motherhood.

My mother has had a rough year - she lost a sister, was diagnosed with emphysema (sp?) and lost a neice. She retired from work but just can't convince my dad to retire too. This photo, from my parents 45 anniversary, reminds me very much of their wedding photos:

I've always related better with my dad than my mom, but I feel lots of empathy for her these days. And then there is the whole 'my own version of motherhood' thing - three teenagers. Boy, you do not know what you are coming up to. Take lots of those wodnerful photos of them snuggling and having total trust. Those moments really, truely are fleeting. My daughter wanted to buy me lunch today. I asked for a hug instead. She declined!
    Happy Mothers Day, all
