Post 'em if you've got 'em.

This is YOUR top ten for LPS #5, not what-you-think-the-judges-will-pick top ten. Extra points and good karma to those who post before the official list is announced. Remember, don't include your own, silly! We know you love yours best. Also, why not throw in why you like your picks? C'mon. It'll be fun.

Ready? Go!

    In order of my preference:

    #1
    Nikolai: Spanish Guitar
The lines, the sensuality, the use of light and shape had me in love with this shot from the first moment I saw it. Nicely done.

    #2
    anwmn1: Water Break
This image speaks to me. I love the color and composition. I love the simplicity.

    #3
    Robert: Poulnabrone Dolman
I spent time in Ireland and I will always have a soft spot for its amazing ruins. This image is stunning.

    #4
    chandi: Astronomical Poetry
Really nice shot, love the motion.

    #5
    scas: Spectra Botanica
The colors in this shot make me happy. I want to dive in and feel the textures. I can almost taste the colors.

    #6
    davev: Dark Morning
Well composed shot with powerful lines and an emotional quality that kept me coming back to study it again and again.

    #7
    richtersl: Catch of the Day
I like how this image makes me feel like I should take a walk and join them. I can almost smell the beach and feel the warm air on my skin.

    #8
    PaulThomasMcKee: Silent Sentinel Signals Sanctuary
I like the use of color and the lines of this shot. It is inviting and stark at the same time.

    #9
    Sunione: The Qualities of Water
Can I take a swim? I want to put my feet in this water, though I bet it's coooold. I like this interp of translucent and dig the symmetry.

    #10
    Tessa HD: Petals of Fire
I'm such a sucker for tulips. I really like the color in this shot and the angle. It's crisp and warm and full of springtime. Well done.

    Nik's Picks
    Not in any particular order:

    LPS#5 Top Ten:

    152485792-L.jpg

    LPS#5 Honorable Mention:

    152485868-L.jpg

In many cases it was a puse tossup, great job, everybody!thumb.gif

    On the first ten...
(in the order of quoting, sorry for non-exact naming):
    • Prayer
it's been said: classic! Loved it since the moment it was posted. Earring adds the icing!
    • Union
very neat and moody. Low light, just two lovers, nothing extra...
    • On edge
Ken did it again! Glowing pepper, menacing shape of knife, great DOF...
    • Horse
Very clean shot. I like the way the horse's tail interplays with the low bushes on the left, making the picture into the loop...
    • Dancers
I wish it was less details on the bodies, but it's good as it is. Great idea and nicely executed.
    • Walk on the beach
      Awesome idea, very moody shot.
    • Tanker
I like the clean silhouette, the great usage of negative space. Bird adds a nice touch.
    • Car
Well, short of a different subject and orientation, I used the same idea for my own entry, so how can I not like this one ;-)
    • See-through leaves
Very colorful and artistic. Fits the theme and very nice on the eye.
    • Fishermen
I guess I'm a sucker for group shots and, in this case, reflections.

    My picks
My 10 picks in no particular order:

    149070353-Th.jpg
This one caught my eye as soon as it was posted. I love how the background seems to mimic the candle flame.

    149501669-Th.jpg
This fellow going out for his evening stroll evoked a very peaceful feeling for me. Lovely photo!

    149830624-Th.jpg
Taking photos under water is difficult because whatever is swimming past you is there for a spilt second before it's out of the frame or no longer precisely in focus. You did well with capturing this jellyfish and providing a fine example of something luminescent.

    150938407-Th.jpg
I love the simplicity of the composition and the lighting!

    151002783-Th.jpg
Very, very charming photo. The B&W composition evokes a feeling of nostalgia.

    152357492-Th.jpg
    Very abstract. Very cool!

    151582827-Th.jpg
The sky is spectacular in this one. This photo also evokes a very peaceful feeling.

    150146331-Th.jpg
Love the different shades of gold in this one.

    152533813-Th.jpg
Love it! It's simple, it's clean.

    151491050-Th.jpg
What's there not to like about a child playing in the water? I love the expression of delight on his face, which is clearly visible in this profile view.

    ----

    Honorable mentions:

End of the Day - jimgoldstein
    That's Where It Went - speedracer04
    Spectra Botanica - scas
    Eternal Embrace - pyroprints.com
    Spanish Guitar - Nikolai

    ----

I feel the judges pain in this one. There were SO many really good photos in this round. rolleyes1.gif

My top 10 (in order posted)

    149379208-Th.jpg
Very nice interpretation of the theme. Haunting comes to mind.

    149501669-Th.jpg
Beautiful colors and composition. Very well done.

    151800092-Th.jpg
Simple, classic. Pulls you in and offers just enough detail to keep you there
    for a while.
    150232615-Th.jpg
Very nice capture with details in the activity

    150662284-Th.jpg
Clever approach - nice composition and colors.

    150919736-Th.jpg
    Excellent use of light

    150146331-Th.jpg
Wonderful color treatment and very strong composition.

    151457961-Th.jpg
    Very cool effect

    152383573-Th.jpg
    A very well executed idea

    152394646-Th.jpg
Much simpler approach than the other leaf shots and I like the solitary leaf budding up and getting that all-important light to promote its life.

    Great job everyone.

    don't make me do it!
I've already cut lots of other faves. This contest was the hardest for me to pick my choices in so far. Many that the rest of you included were in my favorites until the last sec. I tried to get down to ten...

I mainly chose photos that I would be highly tempted to buy if out at an art fair, or that I wish I'd taken, or wouldn't tire of very easily if they were hanging on my wall. I know much can be improved with my photos, too, and hesitate to say anything negative, but on a couple of my 'winners' I wish the composition were a little different giving more of a focal point...can't say I'd have done it better, but...(that was hard - - the powers-that-be won't be looking to me to judge and offer critique any time soon rolleyes1.gif )

No offense but your leaf is not that translucent. ne_nau.gif There were several that had an aspect of both- just not as pronounced.

    Good Luck.
