Just an update on the lens situation, by a matter of chance I happened to find a job umpring for the last couple weeks and by working non-stop I was able to raise enough money (along with a small loan from the parents) to purchase a new nikon 80-200 f/2.8. :barb Here a few from the first few days with them and feel free to add suggestions on what to try and your thoughts on the pictures.

I think you are doing great and I am envious of your lens. I am saving up for the 70-200 VR version. Your second picture almost looks 3D. I like how you are lower than the subjects. In regards to sports, I always think it's the best view if you are on the field. Getting on top of dugouts or get in positions other don't can be great as well. Step and extension ladders are great at peeking over fences and getting into postion in the outfield. Getting in the outfield is a great way of getting bat on ball pics. You can also view the pitch and can time the swing.

Hey Jonh, thanks for the tips on the ladder, I had never though about that before. A step ladder would be perfect for my schools home field. Good luck with the 70-200, I'm loving my new lens so I'm sure you'll enjoy yours even more. Thanks again.

Certainly looks like the venerable 80-200D suits you fine.

The sharpness and contrast of this lens is great. I have it and the 70-200, not sure which I like more.

1st and 3rd ones are good, but the rest need some work :p.

I think they are all really nice action shots. The very last shot seems a little soft but may just need a little sharpening.

Considering your a High School student using a D70 which is a great camera but by no means a fast sports camera at 3fps I think you did an awesome job , keep it up, the more you shoot the better you will get.

I would crop them tighter and shoot tighter when possible, fill the frame as tight as you can on action shots.

Im not sure if you shooting horizontal or vertical, I shoot vertical 99% of the time with sports just to keep the action tight.

Some like to shoot horizontal and catch everything because they cant catch the action shooting tight and then crop in on the action, when you start cropping and making big images out of small ones you lose detail.

You are doing a great job, keep it up, I look forward to seeing more of your shots.
