Can IE users see my galleries?

I've had a couple of IE users (on corporate networks, BTW) report they can't get into my galleries. An example of the message the browser gives them is

Todd.jpg

I don't know if the problem is due to some kind of 'block' at their places of work, or otherwise. The gallery referred to is passworded, but the problem is occurring at both passworded and non-passworded galleries.

Can someone using IE please tell me if they can get into this gallery?

I can't get to any of your galleries on IE. I get the same error and I'm not going through work firewalls right now. Works fine in Firefox.

I can get into it with no errors. I'm at home (so no corporate firewall) running IE7 on Windows XP.

I see an interesting coding error in what looks like it's probably your nav bar. You have:

<*link rel="stylesheet" media="all" type="text/css" href="css/drop_variation.css" */>That translates to http://rosscollins.smugmug.com/gallery/css/drop_variation.css which is a weird file and generates errors on both IE and Firefox.

Is this your code? If so, where did you get it and what are trying to do with it?

'Yes', 'from one of the CSS sites as part of my nav bar coding', and 'I don't know'!

Can you deduce what its purpose is likely to be and kindly suggest what I should do about it?

The first thing you should probably try is to remove it from your customizations. This is something you could use when on a custom web site where you can place files wherever you want, but not something you could use at Smugmug. On Smugmug's site, it is loading something, but it doesn't look like it could possibly be something you want here.

I get the same error message using IE7 under Windows Vista. Your nav bar loads and then the error message pops up and the page aborts.

Thanks, John - that's what I'll do right away. As soon as I saw your post that was my inclination, but I thought I would just keep my powder dry until I had your further feedback.

Thanks for your interest in this. I test my site with nine (Mac-based) browsers, but not IE.

Ross, you have the operation aborted problem, I'll have one of our specialists go in and fix your customizations (it's an easy fix, but hard for me to explain). No worries. Barb will get to it in a little while (she's away from her desk right this moment).

In case this is anything else that needs to be fixed, there's all sorts of JavaScript in the CSS customization section.

    Hi :)

Can you check now and see if all is okay? I removed the script from your CSS customization. It seemed to be just extra stuff anyway, as you have it elsewhere, i.e., right-click protect message. I placed the right-click protect in the footer code box. I also made quite a few changes to your scripts for changing section titles, i.e., Featured galleries, Gallery Categories, and Selected Photos, aka popular photos.

Let me know! I checked in IE6 and 7 and did not have any problems now.

    What actually caused the problem?

It's the IE Operation Aborted issue, in that thread. Specifically, this.

OK, I was asking because I never found and still don't see any slideshow code on his page. I guess it could have been a related issue of other JavaScript executing too learly in the CSS section rather than in the footer.

Have you all ever considered adding a check for *script* tags in the CSS section when they save CSS changes to stop people from shooting themselves in the foot that way?

Very likely, since that seems to be the essence of Barb's make-over nod.gif

John there's more to it than just slideshow. It's any of the scripts, like the ones Ross uses to change the names of things. They have to be run after the page loads. That's what Barb fixed.

The JS in the CSS box didn't cause the IE Abort message- though it'd be nice if we could check for that :D
