A stroll to enlighten oneself

Dear friends,

I'm not very much of a picture poster but more of a shooter :D once in a while I feel the need to share some photos with you though. I love to take a stroll down the river when the weather is nice and I can relax for a bit. Just wandering around looking for photo ops. One of my foremost loves these days are barbed wire close-ups, I have a lot of them, but I'll hand ya one :D

When I walk around I find myself looking for peace, quiet and sweet saturated views like this one:

or this one:
38448946.jpg
Sometimes I just 'see' a black and white appearing in front of me.... The high contrast from the heavily backlit front of the river sliding into a softer shadow part gave me an awesome view:

It's those little things that I like to observe, a small branch lying in a strange position somewhere, a piece of wood that has a funny form, or a small bit of grass growing on the side of a small bridge:

Simply fascinated by the wonders of nature:

Thank you for joining me on my peaceful stroll.....

Great series. I like the use of shallow DOF to separate your subject. What lens did you use for these?

Barb wire & razor wire is a favorite of mine too. If you can combine it with rust, you've got a winner in my book.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Dave,

thanks for the compliments :D They were mostly done with the Canon 70-200 F/4 a great lens for the money mwink.gif If you want to see some more 'wires' visit here:

I'm thinking of creating a 'wired' gallery soon :D It is just so cool to shoot 'em with shallow DOF iloveyou.gif
By the way, the piece of grass on the bridge was shot with the 50mm f/1.4 I believe, an AWESOME piece of glass, I really prefer it over the f/1.8 mwink.gif
    Thanks for dropping by Dave!!

I'll check out the link now. That 70-200 f/4 is an awesome lens. I have a 20 year old Nikon version, and its still awesome. I wish they would update it w/ todays technology to help w/ focus speed, and maybe add VR (IS).

I have a 50m f/1.4, and sold the f/1.8 last week. It looks like you have great taste in lenses :D

Here is a favorite fence pic of mine. It was taken with the D70 & Tamron 17-35.

I just took a look at the link! You've got some great shots in there.

These two are my favorite, and I think you should post them.

I love the way the sun is coming through the clouds. The tree on the right works very well here.

Another great fence picture. Great focus & composition. I love the hair stuck in the barb.

    Wonderfull series Michiel
I've always admired your work, this series being no different. I like how you get dramatic shots out of everyday scenes, and how you "hunt" for good subjects. Great stuff!

I'm enlightened...and inspired, Michiel. Nice job finding the tiny natural beauty in macrophotography.

You are most welcome Lynn :D

Yeah, that #5.. I was passing by a small bridge, and what do you do when you see a small bridge? You get under it rolleyes1.gif when climbing down alongside the bridge I saw it standing alone, but defended by the fence on the bridge.... photography is soo cool in that aspect, your subject can really be ANYTHING iloveyou.gif

Michiel, the b&w grasses are beautiful! I'm so impressed (and inspired) how you manage to make such great shots out of less than obvious subjects thumb.gif

I like that barbed wire. The second one today I have seen that I like, I have never seen the appeal before.

    Good shots!
