I have a few now but am going shooting (specifically Saturday) praying the wind dies down as it's been outrageous here for 1 1/2 weeks.

Your thoughts are appreciated. The frames and copyright will go away of course.

    This one's gorgeous!!! thumb.gif

DOF is good but the leaves make this one distracting. Love the three birds, though.

Very nice, but could benefit from a crop from the top and a little from the right. thumb.gif

Don't forget to remove the frame before you post your selection to the competition thread. mwink.gif

I like them all, however, the third one is my favorite. As mentioned, it may benefit from crop taking some of the top and right out of the image allowing the bird to be off center a bit. I like the fact that it's wake breaks the frame of the image. Takes you out and back into the photo. The golden color is very warm and yet soothing at the same time. Nicely done. Dizzy

15524779-Ti.gif Although the three birds would be my favourite if the leaf wasn't blocking the third bird.

When I saw the birds they instantly reminded me of three italian americans gangsters in suits from new york in a movie looking and talking tough :D

    Great shots - as usualthumb.gif

Very nice! #3 is also my favorite and I agree with Linda's crop advice.

Of these I would agree on #3 with the benefit of a crop. I have seen your work before and know you can do better too.

Hope that wind co-operates for you. :D

All nice, but I, too, like #3 best for the challenge. I agree about the crop, basically to get rid of the blown out area at the top. Even though the duck is headed out of the frame to the right (and if you crop at the right he will have even less room), I think this is a good example of when breaking the "rules" works.

    Good luck this weekend!

    Thanks a million gang
Ok....I cropped it several times/several ways (the original). I liked the source light (the blown out top) as that is where the light was coming from. I do agree that the duck was close to middle frame horizontally. What I didn't want is to loose the openness as the little wake behind the duck and from where he started may be minimized. Here is a new crop and maybe I've been looking at it way too long.

Thanks again, and let me know what you think of this one.

I like it better (and it was my favorite of the original three, too!). I actually think the blown out top worked okay with the white border... without that border, I think it needed to go.

Very nice light. I really like it.

Nicely cropped. I don't think this crowds the duck at all, in fact in the original I think he had too much room and got lost. thumb.gif dizzy

I'm the last person on the planet who should be commenting on a cropped photo, but I like the last take of the duck. It falls right into the cross hair of two intersecting rule of thirds lines.

IMHO -I've seen your gallery and you should keep shooting for the semi-final (I say that with respect). :cool

Good job cropping. The composition is pleasingly balanced. I understand why you wanted to keep the bright area on the top, but what I think of as the V pattern of the light on the water and the little sparkles tell the viewer enough about the light source without distracting the eye.

    Appreciate the feedback
I too, now that it's sunk in rolleyes1.gif, like the crop better. Thanks for your insights. I'm still shooting as there are some shots that "must" be taken for this challenge. Your input is sincerely appreciated!

keep shooting! :-) These semifinalist shots have to be out of this world spectacular to stand a chance of making the top 10 that we will vote on.

I hate to say it Swartzy, but I agree with Dee.
I don't think the duck is going to get you were you want to go.

Can't ride the duck, might as well shoot it rolleyes1.gif. I'll be out literally all day Friday...and I mean ALL DAY.

Of all these I like the cedar waxwings best, although I'd crop it square to focus on the three. That said, I KNOW you can do better for the semifinal. :D
