Low light wide angle lens for a 350 XT?

I have used the 50mm 1.8, but it is just way too tight for most situations. I would like something in the 24mm range, but it seems a lot of the offerings get marginal reviews.

I am looking for a lens to shoot local bands performing in bars. I would like to avoid using a flash if possible.

From Canon, other than price both the EF 24mm and 35mm f/1.4L USM primes are very sweet IMHO ... or do you want a zoom?

It doesn't have to be a zoom. I was trying to avoid another $1000+ lens. I wish they made something like the 50mm 1.8 in a 24, 28, or 30mm. I would consider a non-Canon brand.

The 35 F/2 is a great value at just over $200 and gets great reviews. However it works out to 56mm on a 1.6 crop, so it still may not be wide enough for you.

EF 35/2 is excellent lens, small, lightweight, great optic quality.
Or maybe Sigma 20/1.8 EX, not very expensive but somewhat heavy.

You might consider either the Canon 28mm f/1.8 or the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. I use the Canon 28mm f/1.8, which has an effective focal length of 44.8mm. Typically, it costs about $350.

Below is a link to concert photos I've taken using the Canon 350D and the 28mm f/1.8.

Thanks for the recommendation. I am going to try the 28mm f/1.8.
