Confused Woodpecker

Sorry about the poor quality of this photo - I will try to get this guy again. He/she is very confused and is 'pecking' our new vinyl eavestroughs. Makes the whole house rattle!!!

But he isn't the only one confused - I am confused by the red patch under his beak - never seen a woodpecker with that marking. I originally thought this was a juve Hairy, but that patch has me wondering:

You have a yellow-bellied sapsucker. And we get them on top of the houses banging on the metal vents. Now that's a racket!!

Yellow bellied sap sucker it is. I am now suspicious that tapping something that echoes (such as eaves troughs) is a mating thing - there were 4 of them chasing around my yard tonight - no good photos though!
