Hi You'll :wave

Todays bird is a real pain in the butt to shoot. Its the Northern Shoveler. He has a bigger bill than any other duck. The bill is black and the head is also black with a green gloss. The breast of course is all white which makes this duck a real bear to shoot. I have yet to get a shoot w/o blowing some of the white.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

He feeds on small aquatic plants and animals. He strains water through his bill which has comblike teeth along its side.

He will usually invert himself to feed.

    Hi Harry,

I am glad you showed this duck up close...I didn't realize their bill was shaped like that. Great Shots!

I am also enjoying the fact that you provide the name and give descriptions...I have learned about many from you! Thanks, Trish

We watched the ducks in Golden Gate Park and it's so funny how they go head first and show us their duck butts! It's so difficult to photograph though, they don't cooperate and line up the right way. I did see one photographer that managed to get some artful duck butts, but can't remember his name.

    Anyway it's a pretty duck!

The surfers, love that young man bitting his lip!

Its funny, as often as I've been to the Wetlands I never paid much attention to
the ducks. I was always looking for the more "interesting" birds.

I'm learning about them with you. When I shot him I said "what the heck is that"?

Those ducks can be a hoot. The problem here is that they leave as soon as they detect you. Its hard to get a decent shot. Well when I get my 500mm I should get better shots. I figure I should have Linda worn down in around 15 years and she'll ok the purchase. rolleyes1.gif

I'm in Viera. That's on the space coast (near Cape Canaveral) on the Atlantic side.

Just hang out for awhile and I'll probably be posting a few bird shots now & then. :D

Thanks Steve. They are a pain to shoot. I'm gonna have to get out of the swamp and get down to the beach to do some more beach shots.
