For all those in the Boston area:
I have been selected to present my photos during Jamaica Plain's First Thursday event. This is a monthly showing that takes place along Centre Street stores in Jamaica Plain, MA (a neighborhood of Boston).
This will take place on Thursday, June 7th from 6-8pm at the store ‘Serene Vibes’ located at 638 Centre Street (see google map below). I would be honored to have you come by and see some of my favorite photos taken in Boston and Jamaica Plain. There should be light refreshments available not to mention all the great restaurants for you to dine at in JP. <o:p></o:p>
I sincerely hope that you will be able to make it.<o:p></o:p>

Congratulations on your show! I don't live anywhere near that area, but I want to offer my congratulations for being selected and wish you luck. I wish I could be there. I hope some fellow Dgrinners are able to make it. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/thumb.gif" border="0" alt="" >

P.S. Be sure to 'bump' your thread at the time of the event!
Question for you- Were you seeking out a show or did someone just see your stuff and ask you to show?
I am on the other side of the US, so cannot make it but wish you the very best.
Don't forget to take pictures of your pictures on the walls and of the event itself. We would love to see them!

As far as how I got 'in', when we moved to this neighborhood two years ago, we started to attend these First Thursday shows.
A bit more info about them:
So I just sent out my smugmug site address to them (glad I had customized it!) and got a nice response from one of the businesses with a great location.
I am now planning to place orders for my prints (just got some 4x6 and 4x5 proofs back) and also created an 'ad' to display in the store window to drum up business. The only problem with the way this is set up is that you are listed with your name under the store where the work will be and then "photography" or some other generic title. No one knows what that photography looks like so you're just depending on foot traffic. Figured I would increase my chances of getting buyers this way.
This also mimics the business card I created for this event which has my email and website addresses as well as prices on the back.
What do you think?

Sounds like a terrific event to bring art to the local community.
Here in Phoenix we have something called First Fridays and Third Thursdays but it mostly artists just opening up existing studios to the public which there is very little photography. You can rent space but most of them are wanting a year commitment and $400 a month.
Wish we had something more like yours!
The ad is a great idea as well. How big do you plan on making it? You could also just place a 11x14 or 16x20 print in the window to help draw attention.
Best of luck- hope you get some work or sales and post some photos of the event for us.

Just wanted to post after the show last Thursday. Ended up with a very nice turnout - friends, co-workers and people who saw some of the ads I placed in community message boards.
The prints turned out great - I love WHCC!!! Had printed with ezprints as well and, while close, nothing touches the quality of WHCC.
Framed them using new mats in frames that I had left over from a previous show and that were in use around the house until now.
Store front:
The placement of the photos wasn't ideal (a bit high and back):
Only sold one print on the night (though have a few people who said they would be in touch over the next few weeks). Got a lot of 'wows' which is really what it is all about! All in all, it was a great opportunity. Now to try to build this concept in DC where we are headed in 3 weeks' time.

On, of course, a sale but also what seems to have been a good experience. I know alot of work went into it and it sounds like it was worth it. The pics look great in the frames and matts, and it seems they were pretty well lit . I've used WHCC too for a couple of small things and I thought they were great too.
Thanks for letting us know how it turned out and good luck in DC.
Jill
The photos look very nice and you got a sale to boot!
Need to get off my butt and try to do something similar.
Nice job and good luck in DC.
