Advance notice: We expect to be using the full maintenance window this Thursday, May 10th. More details as they come, and if it changes, we'll let you know also.
5/10/07 Maintenance Alert - Database & Network Upgrades We will be upgrading database & shuffling network components during the 5/10/07 maintenance window (Thursday 10:00pm to Friday 03:00am PDT). There will be a period in which the entire SmugMug site will be unavailable.
Specifically, we will be transitioning some of our database infrastructure to newer, faster disk arrays, as well as shuffling some of our core network switches to better utilize our hardware. While we hope this won't take the entire window, please plan on a complete outage for the full five hours. If things go quicker than planned, we'll gladly end it as early as possible.
Thanks for your patience, and sorry in advance for any inconvenience.
Do you guys not have a backup server to use while maintenance is being done?
If only we had a single backup server...
Unfortunately they all must come down when you are working on the master database. We know it sucks, but sometimes it has to be done so that we can ensure data integrity.
Tonight, we're upgrading the disk storage arrays on our databases and our network. That sounds techincal, but all it really means is that SmugMug will be faster than ever when we're finished.
I just looked at the source of the page. Either add a base href="http://www.smugmug.com/" tag to the head section, or fully qualify the css and image links to fix the problem.
We've begun. I'll post here any ETAs or other information as we get it.
Hope you like our new Maintenance page.
That new image on the page made me smile. Who of you guys is responsible for that candid shot of your new farmer with that big grin watering your server farm?! Who is he anyways?

Ran into some snags (don't we always!), but things are cooking along now.
I'm looking at a 2AM Pacific finish time for the DB copy, and hope to have the servers back online some short time after that, after I verify things are golden.
Not sure how Andrew is coming on the network stuff, but I expect he'll finish before I do.
unprofessional image
i'm really not liking the image of the green guy watering the computers. it just doesn't look professional, and i think i would prefer just basic text explaining whats going on.

I'm done and ready with the database upgrade. Guess I was wrong about Andrew, waiting on him for turning the site back on. Stay tuned....

Hi, we're having some fun while we do what we've got to do. Life's too short for dull, boring sameness.
