SD to CF adpater in a camera

Has anyone ever used a SD to CF adapter in a camera? I have an SD slot on my laptop and was wondering if it would just be easier instead of dragging around a card reader or wire to use this method.

Any feed back would be great.

It depends on what you are shooting and the speeds you need. I am using one in my camera right now, and it works perfectly. The only difference is the write time on it is half what it is with a CF card. To test how much the adapter slows it down I used a card reader to copy files straight from the SD card without the adapter, then using the adapter. When I used the adapter the transfer took twice as long.

So basically if you shoot all the time in burst mode, and you need the buffer to empty to the memory card quickly, then the adapter may not be for you. But if that doesn't matter, then it expands the possibilities of memory for you!!

One caveat, I'm not sure if using the adapter in any way changes the reliability of the card. Things like write errors and such could happen more often. This has not been my experience, but if you shoot for business then you may want to stick to regular CF.

    Hope this helps!

I am thinking of this more on the road. I have a card reader at the office but I don't want to havw to drag around anything while on the road. I just lost my usb cable for the camera while traveling and this is why it came up.

I also sadly lost a lens but thats another story.

As long as it won't limit your shooting speed (which I highly doubt it would, since it really doesn't limit the speed that the buffer can accept pictures, only the speed that the buffer empties to the card) then I say go for it. It makes it really handy!

If you have an available PC Card slot, I highly recommend one of these:
