Emergency Maintenance - May 25th, 2007

Hey all,

We missed releasing a major new feature during our maintenance window last night, but it's possible we'll attempt it tonight instead. If so, it'll be during the same hours: 20:00 Pacific tonight to 03:00 Pacific tomorrow morning. We're still testing, so I'm not sure yet if this is a go or a no go, but we'll keep you posted. Things are looking fairly good right now.

We are going to try something new tonight. If it doesn't work, please don't kill me, but we're gonna try to put the site into 'Read Only' mode so people can still browse your photos, see them embedded out on the net, etc.

But that means you won't be able to upload new photos, log in, edit captions, leave comments, etc. Only view. There will be a big notice on the top of each page letting you know the site is currently undergoing maintenance, is in read-only mode, and may go offline at any time.

There will probably be a few minutes here and there where the site may not be as speedy, but if this test goes well, it should remain mostly online throughout the release.

Wish us luck!

    Hi Don,

Might be a good idea to send a heads up message to the control panels
of all smugmuggers - I believe you've done this in the past - it was a good
    method of alerting us.....deal.gifthumb.gif
    thanks,

Yeah, I got no photos at all showing now either, just thumbnails for each gallery, but you click a gallery, it's like it's completely empty...

A bit frustrating when you have a new camera you wanted to show some pics to folks. Links to 2 photos I posted at my forum earlier are still showing up, but nothing inside smugmug directly...

If your photos aren't showing up...please switch to another style other than SmugMug. It appears to be working for some browsers but not others... we are currently looking into the problem.

Don... Want to thank you for the FYI. I was nice to find this post so easily once I saw that I was unable to login.

So, what is this "major new feature"? Does it pertain to all accounts?

The "window shopping" mode is good. That way people know what's up, and hopefully there won't be customers caught with huge print orders lost... (Are shopping carts like, frozen during this "window shopping" session? Or are they emptied? :-(

They're frozen. They'll unfreeze when we go back out of 'window shopping' mode.

Speaking of which, things are going well. We're nearly 50% done, best guess, so we have a few hours left to go.

    Thanks for being patient!

In short it should add keywords and search for private galleries as far as I know.

Thanks for the window shopping mode! I do a weekly macro / closeup thread on DP Review (as "John K") and I use SmugMug to host the images for it. Awesome that you can do maintenance and the macro thread still has my images in it! bowdown.gif

Things are going great so far.

Current ETA is to turn off 'window shopping' mode somewhere around 0400 Pacific.

After that, there will still be some lag (unknown how long just yet, but likely a few hours) on some of the new search features, but the rest of the site should be fully functional and operational, and the search lag should catch up fairly fast.

Thanks so much for being patient with us!

More as I get it. :)

Can you maybe define lag? Will we be able to search in private galleries yet or not while being signed in?
Lag would mean yes, but taking some more time to present me the result page. What I'm currently getting while searching for words included in captions of private galleries is nothing.

Good to have you back Andy! How was the trip?

Due to the maintenance I checked the team gallery and discovered your face in there as well. Looks a bit creepy. So this going to be your this years halloween avatar? :D

    Sebastian,

It could be a few hours before you can return results for private albums.

Okay, good to know as long as it's not many months like with timeline. :D
Speaking of timeline again: Any chance that it'll work with private albums as well? Preferably as an option to be turned on/off as I need it.

Gotcha: private galleries will not show up in visitor searches on your SmugMug pages, but password-protected albums will. Keywords for private galleries won't work for visitors, but will for you when you're logged in.
