Florida Drought

Its really dry here in the Tampa area. The local rivers are lower than at any historic point. The big lakes are down over 6 feet from normal.

Behind my house is a nice creek that flows with lots of wildlife. Its kind of my personal Viera Wetlands. I went back there this afternoon and found it pretty much dry.

I usually cannot wade across at this point, due to a combination of flow rate and depth. Today, you can walk across and not even get wet:

What few birds are left are looking for water:

If you look down here it is extremely dry and prone to fires. Its usually a pine forest, but now just a tinder box:

There are still a few birds here, but they are skittish. I can normally get really close to this pair - not today, severe cropping to show the kinds of birds.....

This is why the smoke and fires will continue to get worse in Florida until we get a hurricane and lots of rain. Funny to ask for a hurricane, but its what we all need (minus the wind!)

Z, in bone dry Tampa.
It is the purpose of life that each of us strives to become actually what he is potentially. We should be obsessed with stretching towards that goal through the world we inhabit.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Little lake where i shoot my birds is all dry now. Good thing there is a big lake right next to it, but birds are not as active anymore. I'm fearing they'll go somewhere else.. :cry
