Date taken in Caption?

Newbie smugmug user here. I searched for an answer, but didn't find one.

Is there a way to automatically put the date taken in the caption or a way to automatically display the date taken for every picture in my gallery. This way the user will know when the picture was taken. They can get it by clicking more photo details, but that is just an extra step.

Let me know if I need to place this in a different forum.

There is no automated way currently to do that I'm aware of.
However, I will put your request in the "queue" for SE development, so when I get to "batch captioning" (which I'm planning to do anyway), I will try to accomodate your request also. It's not a big deal to do technically, but there are tons of options/UI issues to consider, hence the complexity and inevitable delay..
