Thanks, a little less than an inch (2.5 centimeters), its sounds like war of the world outside. The 17 year cicada infestation has begun!

I am slowly putting together a gallery I am sure I will be posting more.

I have friends around Chicago that have not seen 1 cicada in their town. For example, I have a number of friends in Oak Park who have not seen any. I am assuming of course you are in Hampshire, IL near Crystal Lake is that correct?

Wow, great shot. They arrive here in Georgia later in the summertime, but we never see them. Just hear them like crazy. Almost deafening in the evenings.

    You mean good, right? :D

I am hesitant to mow my lawn this week for fear of killing a quarter million of them. The problem is that the longer the grass grows, the more the grass attracts the adult cicadas. headscratch.gif

Thanks for the correction I do mean good :D. I just mowed today, interestingly much of the lawn was clear. I have a dog who is eating cicadas like nobody's business, so I think he is keeping the yard clean.

There is an ash tree at the very back of my yard that you can hardly stand next too it is so loud. Thankfully I have a big yard so its like 200ft or so from the back of the house.

    Great sharp details! clap.gifclap.gif

I've only ever seen one at a time in my yard - and not too often.

That second shot is good too! Kinda creepy tho...
