They want you to submit a Portfoloio of work to be judged by senior members, before you are even considered for membership --So if you are just beginning get out and Practice--get a good long lens 2.8 would be great

Sports Shooter is meant to be a forum for professionals to talk amongst other professionals. Hence the requirement to submit a portfolio for review and the annual dues.
