Hey D-Grinners,

I am heading to Mexico for 2 weeks next Monday and could use some insight as to some rare and exotic spots for some good shoots. I will be in Cancun, Cozumel and Playa Del Carmen. Any cool, unusual and interesting ideas?

Thanks in advance...

Haven't been to any of those places but I used to live in Mexico City and I have been to Alcapulco several times. Mexico is a very interesting place (once you get away from the border). You will take lots of photos. I think the people are the most interesting. Most are very friendly especially if you get away from the tourist areas. I enjoyed the bullfights if you get a chance to go to one of them.

The buildings go from ultra modern to falling down slums. There is a lot of history there too. So enoy the trip and take lots of photos to show us.

The Yucatan peninsula has impressive Mayan ruins. Chichén-Itzá, Tulum and Uxmal are all (relatively) nearby. M[SIZE=-1]érida is also worth a visit.

    Have a great trip.

:D As Richard mentioned, there are plenty of wonderful venues in Quintana Roo of which is most of the Yucatan. There are no rivers (they are all underground) so they have fresh water areas that reach the surface either on land or in the ocean. They are called Cenote's. Some of them have manatee's.
I personally enjoyed Cozamel. The only adventure there that I didn't complete was the "ocean trail" leading to the lighthouse on the north end of the island. It's a long trip by jeep or ATV and I didn't have enough time to finish it. On the way I did see at least one Mayan lighthouse and hoped to see more but daylight and time were short. There is also a lighthouse on the south end that is very accessable. There is also a Mayan ruin that is being cleaned out. Good luck and good trip. bsvirginian

How was your trip? Photos? Any recomendations for someone travelling there now?

We ae going for a week, leaving next Sunday. We can probably only manage one big excursion - travelling with 4 teenagers means lots of conflicting interests, but I am very interested in the ruins. We are staying quite close to Tulum.

Also likely to ride the collectivo into PDC for a shopping day. Any suggestions on that?

    Thanks
