Shooting with Keith and Gayle
Hi Y'all,
On Wednesday I had the pleasure of shooting with Keith (kgarrett11) and Gayle (gaylenick) at the Alligator Farm rookery in St. Augustine. I had a terrific time. Its always great to meet up with Dgrinners for a shoot. If you haven't had the pleasure yet I recommend it to ya.
While shooting I went over my 40,000th shot mark for the year. I figure if I take enough shots by the law of average I have to come up with a few keepers. :lol4
anyhow here are a few of my shots
a tri-color chick taken with the D2X and the 70-200mm F/2.8 and a 1.4 TC
a snowy egret chick taken with the D200 and 300mm F/4 lens and a 1.7 TC
Wood storks making enlargements to the family room taken with the D2X and the 70-200mm 2.8 lens and a 1.4 TC.
The "happy" wood stork couple, if you look carefully below them you can see a chick popping its head up. Taken with the D200 and the 300mm F/4 lens and a 1.7 TC
a trio of tri-color chicks making their plans for world domination. Taken with the D2X and the 70-200mm 2.8 lens and a 1.4 TC
Its always a sad day for the parents when the chicks can follow them outside the nest. here a parent snowy egret is waylaid by its chicks on the railing of the boardwalk. Taken with the D200 and the 300mm F4 with a 1.7 TC.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

I always laugh when I look at your pictures. They're beautiful alright, but the faces and the personalities you seem to capture in these birds are so funny.
** Feel free to edit my photos if you see room for improvement.**
Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if
no birds sang there except those that sang best.

This was my favourite Harry, brilliant pics.
I guess a 1000mm f1.0 lens is not really necessary to make great pics, eh:D

Thanks Dana, I always try to capture them when they are doing something interesting as opposed to the "bird as a statue" poses.

Looking at your shots makes me want to go back to the Alligator Farm and try harder! Not today though, it has been raining like crazy. I love the Snowy with his mouth open. They are my favorite birds to watch because they are so self confident. It was great seeing you and Keith on Wednesday.

You did notice that I said that I hit the 40,000 mark in pictures for this year. I show y'all the 20-30 that come out OK and hide the 39,970 that are dreck.

Thanks and they are funny. To really appreciate it you have to be there to hear the accompanying sounds.

All good! My fav of course is the snowy family! Ha! Looks like most of the chicks are big enough to cause trouble already!
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Shay, that shot was a bear to shoot. The lighting was not good and I took around 14-15 shots and this was the only one that did end up in the recycle bin.
