Unique sports photo essay

Here's a short (3 minute) photo essay, with commentary, by a New York Times contract photographer who used aerials and also a tilt-shift lens to capture surreal images of sporting events.

At first I thought the tilt-shift shots were Photoshopped. But he eventually discusses his technique a little bit.

Very interesting visuals, well worth a minute of your time.

You can make the thing full screen by clicking on the square at the end of the time line.
Sid.

    Linky.

Click for the little slideshow. Great photos, amazing use of really thin DOF :D

The mag in print is way cool. The shot of Maria Sharapova winning the US Open is quite good.

Andy, is Laforet using this so-called tSE lens that you and everyone have been talking about?

Interesting. Reminds me of the fake miniature look with the short DOF, only he's shooting it in camera, not faking it in post.

    I love the unique perspective.

Yeah, that's right, I'd forgotten about that.

Neat. Some of them almost look like claymation stills.
