In sports a common motto is shoot close, crop closer. (Or a variant thereof.) You want ACTION to be the focus. I like the ball in this one, but you could easily crop it with a vertical orientation and loose the ball.
This one was harder to crop because of the additional players and the ref. chopped off the horses hind legs, but I like this better than having the partial players in the background. Here the focus is on the two players battling it out.
This one has action, but it doesn't really tell a story. There isn't a battle or a destination in sight, but I again cropped away extra space. If there was ball in the foreground this one would be awesome!
I like what was done with the exception of the 2nd one. I agree about having the ball in the picture but, for once, they hit it well right before the shot. This was the first polo match I had ever seen, much less photograph. If I get any chance, I'll use what I learned.
