No tripods allowed in NYC?

Is it true you're not allowed to use tripods in NYC (or you need a permit)?

    Not true, but it depends where you are talking about shooting with it.

    For example, you can't plop one down in GCT without a permit.

    I got busted not once but twice. Thankfully, it was by two different cops. Playing the dumb, staight off of the Mid West farm routine worked. :D
