Beginners attempt at an Osprey

Hello all, would first like to say how fortunate I feel to have found such a wonderful group of folks here. By way of introduction, I'm a complete beginner and have really enjoyed learning from the knowledge that is so freely shared here. My wife purchased a digital Rebel for me for my B-day in April, and I do not think I have ever enjoyed a gift so much. I wanted to share my attempts thus far, criticism welcome, and appreciated. I have not had a chance to learn any of the "post" techniques other than cropping, but look forward to any suggestions of what to try with these.

Very nice shots! I so want to get a good photograph of an osprey. I saw one this winter at a lake in the Texas Hill Country but it was so far away. For whatever reason that redwinged blackbird didn't like the osprey. rolleyes1.gif

Thanks, Stephen! I feel fortunate to get the shots that I did. Ospreys and Red winged blackbirds happen to be my two favorite birds, and I cannot believe I was able to get a single shot with both of them together. Not to mention that the poor ducks in my neighborhood are in negotiations with an agent and considering charging for any more shots of them. I was really thrilled and it has only served to drive my desire to learn how to take better photos. I was able to take these and others within about 10 minutes, but between myself and the pesky blackbird, I felt I needed to back off and let her tend to her young instead of worrying with me. There are numerous nests in my area, but most are on cell towers or on top of utility poles which are not very sightly.

Number 2, 4, and 5 are the best. About the only thing I would now is go back and possibly brighten up some of the photos. Some are a bit dark. Other than that, you did a great job tracking a moving target. thumb.gif
