yay, i got paid!

ive shot one other wedding other than this one for a friend of mine.

it's a lot of work! i was on location from 5pm till about 10pm, swinging that 70-200 around gets tiring after a while! anyway...here are some of the results. the wedding was held outdoors, which made my job a LOT easier.

these folks were a fun bunch to shoot. they are mostly punk rocker party types, you'll see most were laden with tattoos and piercings and all that. the processional for the groom and his men (with the bride's maids) was the Imperial March from Star Wars. It was EPIC!

1. cake...with some pp. (w/o the effects here)

2. bride getting her dress ribbons tied

3. and our lovely bride:

4. groom with their daughter.

5. YOU ARNT GETTING AWAY! (love the look on his face)
159133451-L.jpg

6. and here we have the mobsters with their ring leader...
159134221-L.jpg

7. ...or maybe they are just a barbershop septet!
159135954-L.jpg

8. the bride's mom holding her granddaughter
159137400-L.jpg

9. this may not be technically the greatest photo, but there's something about it that i just really like. I think that there is a photo of my grandmother holding me that is very similar to this one, maybe that's it.
159137587-L.jpg

10. and the bride makes her entrance. for some reason her father didn't escort her. just look at that smile.
159141196-L.jpg

11. the bride in position...that smile still persists! (nice B/W conversion here)
159142942-L.jpg

12. I hope she likes this one, because i LOVE it. not sure who she was looking at, probably her mom.
159143256-L.jpg

13. "Ohhhhh crap what am i DOING!"
159143376-L.jpg

14. There was this ray of sunlight hitting her veil the entire time. it was really beautiful. the only problem was that the wind kept blowing across her profile so i had a hard time getting her face.
159144947-L.jpg

15. ahh the kiss. he really laid one on her, and vice versa. i was holding the shutter down here, so there is a series. here and here
159146376-L.jpg

16. and the b/g recessional
159147143-L.jpg

there are a bunch more, family formals and the reception. i haven't finished post processing all of them yet.

C&C welcome as usual. thanks for looking!

I like 3 the most with the side lighting . The d50 is a very capable camera and the flash synch of 1/500 beats many other cameras ....

Especially considering it was your first and yes, they were a fun bunch of people which made it easier for you.
Biggest problem with weddings of course is the white dress/black suit combination which strains the dynamic range of your camera.
Using layers can solve this, but is hardly an option when shooting hundreds of pics.
The Canon 1D mark III is supposed to be good at tackling this problem.
Apparently it even has a special mode for it,
    so start saving.:D

    Bye,

My thoughts - for what they're worth
1 - not too thrilled by the blurring effect on this cake. Looking at your gallery for just a moment, I didn't see any detail shots. That might have been a good idea, especially if you are planning to do an album for them.

2 - This is an interesting shot, though it's a bit centered. A tighter crop would have made this much more interesting as her expression would have had a strong impact. Side shadows - get a bracket or shoot all landscape and crop for portrait.

3 - This is, by far, the best of those you have posted. Love the shot. A little fill on the shadow side (FEC, -1 to -1 1/3 stops) would have made this a real stunner.

6 - Just a touch too contrasty for my taste and I like contrast in my B&Ws

9 - I also like the B&W shot of the grand-child/grandmother. A little fill would have been nice.

10 - Love the emotion. This is a real keeper!! From my position as a Monday morning quarterback, if you had been on her right (her shadow side) and done some fill flash, this would have been even better.

13 - Would love to know what is going through his head when you shot that one. I suspect he will never be able to live this one down!

well, they put on the wedding themselves, with the exception of the food, DJ and photography. They are doing the album themselves, which is fine by me.

i had a hard time finding good spots to compose the shots of her coming through the door. it was such a small area, with chairs and bushes all around, so the isle was pretty much my only option there.

this wedding looks like SO much fun....I love the fact that the processional was the imperial march, that's fantastic. I'm so jealous you got to shoot such a fun bunch!

Weddings *are* a ton of work...you're clocking in at under norm though (5 hrs!) I wish my last wedding was only that much on location...Laughing.gif! 9 hrs is my average. I need to step it up!!!

I agree that #3 is just fabulous, I just love the lighting here, and wonder if you used a reflector for that bit of fill on her right side (your left?) This is fantastic and I love it in color (non diffused) the best. When a shot's this good...leave it be! I just keep looking at this shot in awe. The controlled highlights in her dress...the windows in the background, her natural expression. Fantastic.

The issue w/ the conversion in #6 for me is that the curves rendered the guys' skin a tad dark, and get lost in the bright white. Other than that I think this is awesome...maybe lighten up the "lights" and "darks" in the curve a tad.

I also just adore #12. Amazing shooting perspective, emotion, colors, this shot has it all...what a keeper!!!

You did a fantastic job for your second wedding, in my opinion, which isn't worth much, but I really enjoyed viewing this whole set on your website and look forward to seeing your next.

I think #12 is a total classic. The thing that really strikes me is the different looks in the bridesmaids faces. Some seem genuinely happy, while others look upset, almost like "that was supposed to be me."

    Great job all around.
