at last
I have got a reasonable pix of a bird in flight...... I still need to shoot more but I have been shooting this bird a lot over the pass week and today he was in nice and close to the shore....... my new Bigma arrives tomorrow, this may help, or be a nightmare for a while

Both shots show you have the right idea. The second has a more pleasing composition and of course closer is better. Getting the shutter speed up will help with the blur. I would go to at least f/6.3 for fliers.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
my Bigma arrived 15 minutes ago, but it is blowing a gale, and I am by the heater...... temptation is a hard master..... I am off to the shore line
