I haven'y posted in awhile. I had been busy for a while setting up my smugmug site. I was lucky enough yesterday to have the pleasure of photographing a friend's daughter for a project they are working on. Here are a few of the results. If I were her I would have atough time choosing. She is a beautiful child!!!

All taken with Canon 400D and either a Tamron 28-75 F.8 or Canon 50mm F1.8II

Thank you both. Talk about trial by fire. This was my first paid portrait shoot......and I got a 2 year old. She was a firecracker and luckily we had enough M&M's to last for nearly a full CF Card.

Of course, she was so cute it made my job easy.

She's quite the little poser, isn't she?! :D Sweet little girl and a nice set of photos. I especially like the first 5. Thanks for sharing!

What a diverse set of GORGEOUS shots. 4 is a work of art. 5 is probably oneof the most engaging child portraits I've seen this year. Amazing set, and btw I just love the urban backdrop.

    Thank You
Thanks for the positive responses. I was afraid of how the shoot might turn out....thinking maybe a female photographer might have better success with children. In the end I am happy with the results. Her mother was coaxing smiles from her at every turn. Today I have an entirely different subject(s). I have agreed to help a friend's wife shoot a wedding in August, and today we are doing the engagement photos. I am doing this all either free or at cost to try to build a wedding portfolio. My approach is to offer what would be a top tier package....engagement, bridal portraits, all day coverage on wedding day, and reception. Hopefully I will be able to tune my process, and build the portfolio, and make the couple happy with what I give them in the end. It is one huge excersize in learning for me....with little or no pressure since I will be shooting in tandem with another photographer. So wish me luck!!! I have a mother on standby wanting me to do her daughters wedding , and I have told her to let me see how my confidence holds up after this one.

Okay....so for advice.....forget white balance cards and light meters.....do I need to bring M&M's this afternoon for the engagement photos?

#4 is a conversion that was done in LAB colorspace mode. I am more often than not blown away by the results of this method. It doesn't work for every scene, but did very well on that one. My descripion of the results of this type of BW conversion is.....soft, delicate, subtle. Of course a couple percentages of a warming filter afterwards is what really sets it all off.

    You are all to kind.

Her mother sent an email this morning. She is placing an order for a pile of photos. According to her order 4 and 5 are her favorites as well.

She is also asking when I can schedule to photograph her infant son. I am on top of the world over this!!! I might just pay for my smugmug pro sooner than I thought!!
