I'm Singing In The Rain - AMA Superbikes Road America

Peeps!

Road America was WONDERFUL. I had the option of goingto Mugello (as I have the option to shoot at any MotoGP) but for me RA is not unlike shooting F1 at Spa in Belgium. Cool, cool track. Glad I didn't go to Italy this year.

Anyways, here's a few from the event. I will update my site with some more next week once I decide what to post. Btw if you own a 1D series camera and "L" lenses with gaskets, don't worry about having raingear. As I have known from past experiences, the cam's are more than well sufficiently able to deal with horrible weather...

Oh, and from what I have observed. DG kicks FredM's butt when it comes to people that know imagery (what I meant here - and posting late inthe evening is not a good idea I guess - was that FM *used* to be a good spot, and there are some very talented people that post there - but IMO it's lost a certain something so rather than post in umpteen places, I'm simply going to post here). It's a shame. So I'm most likely not going to share anything over there and simply do my sharing with the peeps here.

I hope you don't mind.

Andrew :)

    Oh, let me think.... lol3.gif

Another excellent series. And how interesting to hear you compare RA to Spa. I love the water spray trail... and the bike with only feet showing! clap.gif

    Andrew,

As usual, you are both: setting a great example of what's possible
and continuing to inspire with your work.... bowdown.gif
With that said - my favs in this batch......
Ben Spies - wheel up/from down low (you even have the whole shadow intact!)
Aaron Yates - from up high
'The Carousel' - from way far!
Roger Haydens 'dump' - for the sheer perserverence to get the shot before
    having to move thumb.gif

    Thanks!! :D

    Thank you..

WX I edited my comment. I should've clarified what I meant and so I did this morning....

As for the Roger shot, I'll post the series on my site next week. It was funny, I just missed the initial off, then I caught him coming down the hill into turn 5, so rather than just mash the shutter (which would mean you'll hit the buffer and miss something) I simply shot a shot at a quick interval, it then dawned on me that if his bike hooked up when it hit the grass it could be curtains for you-know-who so the last shot i have really does fill the frame before I baled..

About 10 minutes after I had one of the delayed shock "phew" moments...

    Very nice photos.
Nice job with the color on such a grey day.
The rain adds a nice element to the photos.
Amazing that they can lean those bikes over so far on a wet track.

You're making me drool every single time that I open up your treads. Love! iloveyou.gif

    My favs:
The carousel -- the roundness of the track just jumps out at me.
Roger Hayden -- oh the feet! I don't think I've seen a dump from this angle
before and am glad to hear that you didn't get hit.
portrait of aaron yates -- he just looks like staring you down

Hey Gene! Thanks for the comps..

Bearing in mind that I pretty much can pick and choose which MotoGP race I cover (and I never take it for granted, that's just the way it is) I'd have to say that RA has some cache, in a different way than Mugello.

For one, you cannot shoot any inside shots due to a number of accidents at prioir MotoGP races. I think it was Nakano that highsided and his bike leapt into the area where most of the photogs were (in the first corner after the start finish straight - just before the bikes go uphill), so you're limited to shooting the entre even on the outside. Not a tragedy of course...

Plus the crowds and your gear. Another worry.

Plus leaving the track. We had ahouse only 1/2 mile from the track, but we had to take the car and it took us 2.5 hours to get "home" and that was 2 hours *after* the race.

The upside, there's a really good restaurant nearby that does deep fried rabbit and the CO-OP supermarket in Borgio San Lorenzo which was food nirvana for a cook like me....

Good points! 100,000 plus crazy Italians:wow

So I guess you'll be doing Laguna? I sure would like to see that race before VR retires:cry

Oh, well. I can live it vicariously through great photos that you and your fellow photogs are kind enough to show.

    Hey Gene..

Yes, I'll be at Laguna for the USGP, the remaining AMA races and for sure, Phillip Island, Valencia and possibly Assen as well...

Possibly a WSBK race or two as well, but that depends on a number of factors.
