Decided to blow off work Friday and take the kids to the zoo.(National Zoo, Wash. D.C.) Brought the 400 f2.8 but forgot the mono-pod, so these were all taken with my 70-200 f2.8 on a 20D. Thanks for looking, comments welcome...................John

Nice captures, especially the gorilla. Lucky one on the panda, too. Everytime we get there the crowd is either too large to get near the fence to use the camera, or the pandas have decided to hide (which is not unusual).

We are planning the national zoo tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get some good shots, too.

Nice shot on the gorilla. I need to get myself to National Zoo one of these days. Cute shot of the panda as well!

Nice shots but I don't understand why you didn't try shooting the 400 2.8 handheld. ne_nau.gifheadscratch.gif

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Gotta agree with Randy....the first and the last are terrific....with the first being the finest.thumb.gif

I wouldn't want to go zooing with the 400 f/2.8. Too many things can happen that I would not be in control of.

David, my best tip would be to go early, especially if you are looking for good photo oppurtunities. The grounds are open at 6 a.m and there is NOBODY there except a few joggers. I got there at 8 and the place was still empty. Although none of the buildings open until 10, many of the animals are out and active at that time of day and there is no one around to get in the way of taking some great photos....good luck.
