Boring Sunday

I decided to make a trip to Myakka River State Park, what a disappointment it was:cry I had such high hopes to get lots of birds and alligators shot. The river was very low, no boat ride, we couldn't even get a canoe to paddle along the river.
I saw 1 egret, 1 GBH and couple of other birds. I saw head of alligator and that was it, imagine that?? What is happening to our little friends? I need to go back there sometime in October, when it gets cooler, may be creatures will become alive and pop their heads out.

I manages to take couple of shots in 4 hours i spent. :dunno

...when you have some extra time, work on this a little bit. I think you could do something with it.nod.gif

Umm, gimme a hint? I did something in ps already, but i don't know if i like it. Bird was quiet dark to my taste, but this looks kind of light? ne_nau.gif

Some days are just like that Marina and you work with what you get. Around here a lot of our feathered friends have become scarce as well. Then we have to deal with the harsh midday, direct light and that doesn't help either.

From what you tell us, I think you did really well and at least were out shooting.

I don't know what version of PS you are using, but in CS2 there is a shadow/highlight function that would bring a lot of the detail out in the shadow area of the shot mentioned above by Ric as well as tone down the highlights.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Well...off the top of my head, I'd try to increase the sat on the blue on the upper half masking the bird out. Then apply a gradient blur to give a polarized filter effect.

You can get a free plugin that makes it easy here:

check.....verticle.....invert....and multiply in the plugin and see what happens....:D

I know how you feel except my story deals with a malfunctioning memory card. That whole sob story will come later. Your heron shots are good. Mine still stink. I even had some avocet shots get blown today too! I also really like that first shot!
