So do you like how it works?
I love the way the legs all bend in different directions.
Lucky you .... Skippy

I have a gorillapod zoom - largest and most sturdiest model. Not sure how much I like it for simple, low-to-the ground shots. For some reason the legs don't suport the weight of the camera, the lens, and the flash too well. It's always slowly dropping. I have yet to try mine with my 70-300 zoom. I have not used it yet as advertised; e.g., with the legs wrapped around branches, posts, etc.

The Gorillapod SLR-Zoom is rated to support up to 6.6 pounds. That's right from Joby's packaging.
Well, to test this I set up the following:
Canon 20D - 1.51 lb
BG-E2 Grip - 0.639 lb
MP-65E - 1.94 lb
Velbron Rail - 1.04 lb
MR-14EX Flash - 0.89 lb
Camera Batteris (2) - 0.335 lb
AA Batteries (4) - ?
Total Weight on the GorillaPod SLR-Zoom = 6.354 lbs
Granted, some of the above is not necessary to use for macro work. One can easily save weight by dropping the grip and one battery. The rail can certainly be optional, too. However, it shows that one can push the weight limits of the GorillaPod SLR-Zoom easily. In fact, I have not exceeded the rated weight, but the GorillaPod SLR-Zoom can't support the weight.
The 28-300 weighs in at 3.7 lbs. It would easily fail the GorillPod SLR-Zoom in a standing position; e.g., not using the legs wrapped around a support, with a 580EX (0.826 lbs) and the 20D (1.51 lbs), grip (0.639 lbs), and batteries. The 28-300 is close to the lens shown in Joby's website:
