Here's the link to the video:

At 1:18 and other various times afer that. This PS wizard highlights something in purple (looks exactly like a quickmask mode) but is able to dynamically change the selection like I haven't seen before. You'll see exactly what I mean when you see it.

Even if you don't know what this is. It's a pretty cool video.

WHAT IS HE/SHE DOING???

Thanks for you time and help.

    Hi Jon,

Looks to me like that is just the quick mask tool, but it's purple not red.

The bloke has used the clone stamp, healing brush, liquefy and transform tools.

Would be good to see it in slo-mo to see what he actually does!
    Cheers,

    Hey Cathie,

I see the same thing. Looks like he/she uses a quickmask. That's not special. What they do w/ transforming the 'quickmask' after it's turned back into a selection is what fascinates me. My mind goes nuts w/ the possibilities!
The rest of the things they do while cool, are old hat.

If this questions doesn't make sense, I'll be happy to go into further detail.

    Thanks,
    -Jon

Selection>Transform Selection, I believe. Then use the shift, option etc. to control the way the handles work.

Yeah i know what you mean. I have seen that in another video too. I have yet to figure that out. It's still a mystery to me. The grid that shows in the selection and how they are able to manipulate it. It seems a much better alternative to liquify. I hope if you or someone figures it out they post it here... lol.

    Eureka!

Here's the deal. TO pretty much nailed it (like that's a surprisemwink.gif).
    • Enter quick mask and make selection (Q)
    • Invert the selection (CMD/CTRL+SHIFT+I)
    • Select free transform (CMD/CTRL+T)
    • 'Right click' (Mac=control click) and select the drop down option 'warp'.
    • Make sure you are using your path selection tool (A) to tweak and nudge.
This gives incredible flexibility when moving pixels around!

    Thanks for everyones comments.

Yes, it's the warp tool. You can also find it on the transform options bar. It's on the far right.

Also, I just wanted to add that in the video the quick mask is purple rather than the usual red. You can change the quick mask color by double-clicking on a mask and choosing a new color via the color picker. The retoucher probably wanted to better view the mask against the red lips. Red-on-red isn't such a great choice for that ; )
