Bayport Aerodrome, a grass airfield on Long Island, had an open house/charity fund raiser on Saturday. The members of the Aerodrome Society own and operate a number of vintage aircraft, most from the 1930s and 1940s. This was the first time I've spent any time at Bayport, it was well worth the visit!
Preparing to fly a Piper Cub:
A Russian Yak-12 undergoing restoration:
Fueling up a Fleet biplane before flight.
One of the society members took us on a tour of the aircraft and hangars, which was a big hit with the kids (and some of us big kids too!)
In the afternoon, they started giving rides in some of the old airplanes. I scored a ride in this 1943 Stearman trainer!
After departing the airport area, the pilot let me fly her for a few minutes, then he took me on a low (150ft) pass along the beach at Fire Island.
Much too soon, it was time to return to the field.
It was a great afternoon - the weather was perfect, everyone was friendly and eager to talk about their airplanes, and how do you beat a ride in a Stearman? This was my first time in an open-cockpit biplane, and I'm still smiling! Thanks to the pilot/owner, Bob Fritts for the opportunity!

What a day that would have been, and a ride throw in too :ivar
The restored Aircraft look beautiful done.
I am glad there are people with a keen interest in restoration to keep these planes in mint condition and still flying.
Thanks for sharing your amazing flying machines.... Skippy
