A little background info: I live in a town of about 4,000. Rural farming community.

Anyhow, in our local paper, I saw a notice for a meeting of the town's camera club. I was intrigued, until I saw that photographers were encouraged to bring a slide to share. A slide? What? I don't even know how to get a slide. Is this weird? :scratch I'm thinking this might be a group of old people who share travels pictures. :huh

It sounds like the camera club has been around a long time and haven't come full on into digital yet.

Show up and just see what everyone has, then find out more info and see if its works joining, etc.

Well at least everybody is interested in photography some just do it differently.

It has just been the last 4 or 5 years that serious photographers have been switching to digital. Before that, most of the nature folks shot slide film for it's small grain. powerful contrast and saturated colors.

If you go I think you will find that 60 to 80 percent of them have made the switch, unless it is led by folks that resist change.

My local club fought it for a while, but are now 95 percent digital. Another local club resisted a lot harder and their membership has dropped by 60 percent and they are just now coming around.

If they have been around awhile they may be hooked into the PSA (Photographic Society of America) and if it is, then there should be at least one extremely good salon per year of the International Flavor.....I have worked several of these salons (as well as entered in them)...but getting to see the work that comes in from all over the world is really great......

The camera club I used to belong to was just a bunch of ol fooggies until one evening a bunch of us that were under 50 walked in and sorta took over.....but after about 3 months this group finally admiotted they had stagnated cause they had not had a new member in almost 10yrs and in one night they got 20 new members....it was weird to say the least....

Art, I think this one is like the one you joined. Laughing.gif I am afraid to even show up. They did say visitors could come an hour after the meeting starts to see the slideshows, so I might just do that!
